Five nonprofit organizations will be profiled on Toyota’s Facebook page each day (http://www.facebook.com/toyota) from Monday, May 9 – August 16
The general public is encouraged to vote each day to help determine winners
One vehicle will be awarded each day through August 16 for a total of 100 vehicles

TORRANCE, CALIF. (May 9, 2011) – Toyota today announced that public voting for its “100 Cars for Good” program is now open through August 16. The program will award 100 vehicles over the course of 100 days to 100 deserving nonprofit organizations based on votes from the public.

Beginning today, five organizations per day will be profiled on Toyota’s Facebook page where the public is invited to show their support by voting daily to help determine the winning nonprofit organization. Each of the 500 nonprofit organizations selected as finalists have created an online profile, which may include a video showcasing how the organization plans to use a new Toyota vehicle to do good in their local community. Voters may place one vote per day, each day, over the course of the program.

Each day, the previous day’s winner will be announced and five new nonprofit organizations will be featured for voting. Winning organizations can choose from the following vehicles: Toyota Prius, Tacoma, Tundra, Highlander Hybrid, Sienna or Sienna Mobility. With each vehicle, Toyota Financial Services will provide a six-year, 100,000 mile Toyota Vehicle Service Agreement to help provide extended protection beyond the vehicle warranty.

The 500 finalists were chosen by an independent panel of judges who are experts in the fields of philanthropy and corporate social responsibility. The finalists represent non-profit organizations servicing the community across a broad range of categories including animal welfare, arts, education, environment, health, safety and human services, among others.

In honor of the heroes serving in our military, Hatch Toyota is joining forces with local businesses and the community to provide military care packages to The 552nd MP CO.

To celebrate Memorial Day, our goal is to send 50 care packages to these men and women stationed in Afghanistan, on June 1, 2011.

As local community members and businesses, Hatch Toyota is reaching out to each of you and asking for your partnership and commitment to help us reach this goal.

For a list of items we need to fill these care packages please email cjanehatch@gmail.com. All donations must be received by May 27, 2011 in order for the packages to be assembled and sent by the deadline.

All donations may be mailed or dropped off at Hatch Toyota 1051 N. Automall Parkway, Show Low, AZ 85901 or call 928-537-5755 to arrange pick-up.

Hatch Toyota has given a donation amounting to $2500 to the Humane Society of the White Mountains. Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., will be matching the donation with an additional $2500. The director of the Humane Society told Mike Leiby of the White Mountain Independent that "the money is sorely needed because donations have suffered significantly during the ongoing recession, and the money will be used to help low income and struggling mountain residents afford spaying and neutering."
Summer months usually increase the number of animals unwanted. Spaying and neutering could help this significantly.
As of now, the Humane Society could use all the donations possible. They need it to help with medical costs as well as the cost to keep the animals clean, fed and watered.
Hatch Toyota picks four charities to donate $2500 each year. The reason Chaz picked the Humane Society this year was because he feels it is often overlooked. With every donation, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., matches it. This allows all Toyota dealers to have a greater impact on their hometowns with each contribution.

If you have watched the news, you probably know about the NHTSA/NASA study that will be conducted on the Toyota electronic throttle system. In response to the publication of the upcoming extensive testing, Steve St. Angelo, who is Toyotas Chief Quality Officer for North America has been quoted:

"Toyota Welcomes the findings of Nasa and NHTSA regarding our Electronc Throttle Control System with intelligence (ETCS-I) and we appreciate the thoroughness of their review. We believe this rigorous scientific analysis by some of America's foremost engineers should further reinforce confidence in the safety of Toyota and Lexus vehicles. We hope this important study will help put to rest unsupported speculation about Toyota's ETCS-I, which is well-designed and well-tested to ensure that a real world, un-commanded acceleration of the vehicle cannot occur."

"We will continue to develop and equip Toyota and Lexus vehicles with industry-leading safety technologies, including many based on breakthroughs in sophisticated electronics systems. As a sponsor of the AR (reading program) at Whipple Ranch Elementary School we were more than thrilled when they asked us if we would have the students who were completing and excelling in AR to Hatch Toyota for a fun reward field trip.

In the below freezing temperature buses filled our car lot. It was definitely a great site to see so many children doing well in reading as this is one thing they will need the rest of their lives.

Popcorn and candy were provided by WME Theaters.
A representative from the Show Low Museum came and gave a presentation on how Show Low got it's name.

Hatch toyota had jumpers set up indoors. The kids really enjoyed this. We gave a card to each student as they came in and then drew cards later for gifts.

Each child left with a re-usable water bottle, gift bag, and a $500 off the purchase of a new Toyota for their parents.

It was a good break from the daily grind to do something fun for the children in our community.

This morning I got in my car almost frozen solid from the short walk I made to get in. It was a whopping 9 degrees.
It has seemed to be an unusually cold winter. With that in mind I asked our service manager Chris Stearns what tips he had for us in the frigid temps. This is how he responded:

"Tips: Driving warms the car faster than idling. If your concern is not the health of the car, but simply your own creature comforts. Idling is not actually an effective way to warm up a car – it warms up faster if you just drive it. Your vehicle is built with cold weather starts in mind this is why the switch to the New lighter weight oils to provide better protection faster at lower temperatures."

My creature comforts seem a little more important at 9 degrees and besides the health of my car is up to the boys down at Hatch Toyota.

Alright so Vacation season is upon us and a lot of us are looking to trim down. I found a great recipe that not only my kids loved but my husband had two of them...(I didn't tell him it was low in fat till after he got done eating, knowing that he is one of the most picky eaters in the world.)

What could be better than a delicious low fat dinner and a free oil change???

Ingredients
1 pound(s) lean ground turkey
1/2 cup(s) seasoned bread crumbs, Italian-flavor
1/4 cup(s) grated Parmesan cheese, such as Parmigiano-Reggiano

1 large egg(s)
1 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
2 tsp kosher salt

24 oz canned tomato sauce
20 oz Italian bread, about two 10-inch loaves
1/2 cup(s) shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Place oven racks in top 1/3 of oven. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or foil that’s been coated with cooking spray.
In a large bowl, combine turkey, bread crumbs, cheese, egg, Italian seasoning and salt. Using a tablespoon to scoop out turkey mixture, gently shape a tablespoon of mixture into a small meatball and place on a prepared baking sheet; repeat with remaining ingredients to make 32 meatballs. Bake, shaking pans every 5 minutes to promote even browning, about 10 to 15 minutes.
While meatballs are cooking, slice each loaf of bread into four equal pieces.
When meatballs are done, remove from baking sheets. Place bread on same baking sheets; top each piece with 4 meatballs. Spoon about 3 tablespoons sauce over meatballs in each sandwich; top each with 1 tablespoon cheese. Bake until cheese is melted and sandwiches are heated through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Yields 1 sandwich per serving.
Notes
Scoop out some bread to create better space for the meatballs so they do not fall out of the sandwich when you bite it.Top with fresh basil if desired.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Whoopie Pies

1 12-oz. pkg. miniature semisweet chocolate pieces
2 Tbsp. milk
3/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 recipe Filling
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Set aside 1/4 cup chocolate pieces to sprinkle on cookies. In microwave-safe bowl combine 1 cup of the chocolate pieces and 2 tablespoons milk. Microwave on 50 percent power (medium) 1 minute or until melted; stir once. Set aside.
2. In bowl beat butter and peanut butter with electric mixer until combine. Add sugar, soda, baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt; beat to combine. Add eggs, 1/2 cup milk, vanilla, and melted chocolate; beat until combined. Beat in cocoa powder and flour until combined. Stir in remaining chocolate pieces. Drop by rounded teaspoons 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Sprinkle with reserved chocolate. Bake 9 minutes or until tops are set. Cool on sheets 1 minute. Transfer to wire racks; cool completely. To assemble, spread flat sides of half the cookies with Filling; top with remaining cookies.
3. Filling: In bowl beat 1 cup softened butter, 1 cup creamy peanut butter, 1 cup marshmallow creme, and 2 cups powdered sugar with electric mixer until combined. If needed, beat in 2 tablespoons milk until spreading consistency. Makes 30 servings.

A Tip For the Colder Weather

I found this guys blog and thought it was interesting.

I can remember my grandfather going outside 10 minutes or so before he left for work to start the car. He'd crank it up, then come back inside and eat a banana or something while he let his bright yellow Lincoln warm up. Back in the day, this wasteful ritual was practiced regularly by drivers around the world. It was rooted in practicality. Old carbureted engines functioned much better warm than cold. They ran more smoothly and efficiently once warmed up. So letting an engine warm up at idle was actually not a bad idea at all.
Fast forward to this millennium and we've got a very different story. Carbs are history, our engines use fuel injection systems that carefully monitor efficiency both in engine power and fuel delivery. These systems employ subsystems that compensate for things like temperature by making minute external adjustments to fueling. This means it will operate at optimum efficiency regardless of engine temperatures. First thing in the morning, it's adding a little extra to the mix to get things warmed up. It's also making sure that when you step on the gas there's enough oomph to get you up to speed quickly. This means that any amount of time you let your car sit in the driveway idling you're wasting gas. You're also not doing the environment any favors because your emission control devices (like the catalytic converter) only function properly hot, and they heat up much faster by driving than sitting still in the driveway. So even if you're a grandpa, don't watch your car warm up through the kitchen window, get going!

1 Tub Cool Whip

1 6-pack Snickers Bars

6-8 Red or Gala Apples

1 Instant Vanilla Pudding

Slice Apples and Snickers into bite size pieces and mix together. Combine Cool Whip and Pudding and stir into the apple mixture. Ingredient amounts can be changed to your liking! Always the hit when I serve at my parties!

A steak and potatoes kind of guy, Ammon Cordova was living comfortably in Idaho when he decided to come back to his roots to work at our new facility in the finance department.
Ammon has large family consisting of four children and twins on the way! He is originally from Eagar which could explain such hobbies as hunting and fishing. He also enjoys basketball (Suns fan!!) and a huge Denver Broncos fan. He has even been known to wear a Broncos tie to work on occasion.
Ammon is good at what he does largely because it is something he enjoys doing. He likes to interact with new people everyday, working with numbers and the challenges that daily finance brings.

Why an Oil Change?

Even with all the technology that automobile manufacturers have, the oil change is one of the few items which they can't eliminate and you still need to maintain your car. Scheduling and regularly getting oil changes is one the best ways to ensure a longer engine life.

If you are like me, you are constantly getting in your car and making short trips around town. Doing this does not allow your car to completely warm up, especially during our cold winter seasons. In this particular situation regular and frequent oil changes are even more important, the reason being that there is acid and moisture build up and when your car doesn't get to warm up, it can't burn this build up off, particularly in the newer engines, because they are very hard on oil and can run very hot. So just by missing one oil change you can develop sludge which in turn can cause some engine damage. Even if you are told the oil put into your car has additives that can help prevent this problem, stop and go driving will eventually break this additive down and the problem can still occur.

Oil sludge is not covered by new car warranties!!!

This means that you could be fully responsible for a large bill for engine work. So make sure to get regular oil changes and file those receipts.

Every year in early fall, for the last fifteen years we have cleaned up the two mile stretch we adopted on highway 77. This is a volunteer effort made by our employees.

We even involve the kids.

After the trash pick up, we have a barbeque for all the families employed with Hatch Toyota.

Bob (general sales manager) sure cooks up a great steak!
